Strings Summer Camp

2022 Strings Chamber Music Camp 

Dates: August 8-11, 9am-3pm daily, $125  
for string students, elementary through high school, who can read music

This four-day camp focuses on developing important chamber music skills which helps young performers build confidence and acquire critical musicianship skills that can make them better ensemble players and soloists. Each day of the camp, participants will receive coachings and take part in daily seminars led by CSPA faculty and KSU String Division students. The camp will culminate with each group performing on the final concert that will be open to the public.

Community School for the Performing Arts is launching its Summer Chamber Music Camp for violin, viola, cello students who can read music. Participants will be assigned to one or more groups and repertoire will be based on their levels. Repertoire is carefully selected to challenge and inspire young players. Music will be assigned and distributed prior to the beginning of the camp. All students will have access to the following programs below. Certificates of completion will be issued to participants.

9:00 a.m. - 11:45 a.m., Chamber Music Coaching, with breaks
11:45 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., Supervised lunch, food not provided – please send a lunch
1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m., Master Classes, Chamber Orchestra Rehearsal & Musicianship Classes
Final concert Thursday August 11

**Scholarships available to students whose household income qualifies for free or reduced lunch. Please contact us prior to registration for more information.

Violin Bootcamp

Violin Bootcamp - Foundations
Instructor: Dr. Mandy Wang
Ages: 4-11 
Day: M-F                   
Dates: Jul 25-29  at MAC    
Time: 9:30-10:00am
Cost: $75 (includes violin) 
Spend a week getting to know the violin in our class designed for 4-7 year olds who have never played. Great emphasis is put on the posture of both the violin and the bow and the mechanics of how the hands coordinate to play the instrument. The class involves listening games, fun activities, and engagement of both the parent and the child. This class provides instruction, support, and inspiration for parents new to the Suzuki Method. Best for students who have never played and are hoping to start our Suzuki private lesson program or Group Violin in the fall.

Violin Bootcamp - Adventures

Time: 10:15-10:50am 
Cost: $75 (includes violin)
Spend a week exploring the violin in our class designed for students with at least some violin experience. This class reinforces basic posture (violin and bow) and review of the new and fundamental skills. Best for students who have just started playing and are hoping to continue Group Violin in the fall or move into private lessons.

Violin Bootcamp - Choir

Time: 11:00am-11:45pm 
Cost: $75 (includes violin)
Designed for 8-11 year olds with previous playing experience. This class will talk about note reading, musicianship, and playing together. Class includes the use of a violin. Ideal for students with experience and those considering Violin Choir and private lessons.
