Memory Palace
Exhibit: April 29 - June 6, 2025

Reception: May 9, 5:00-7:00pm
Originally produced as a poetry walk project in Strang Park (Overland Park, KS) for the 2023 Johnson County Library’s Writer’s Conference, “Memory Palace” is a series of poem and image pairings produced in collaboration between Kansas Poet Laureate Traci Brimhall and visual artist Kelly Yarbrough. Brimhall was fascinated with the concept of building a memory palace as a mnemonic device, and a theme took hold after the two came together around some old graphite drawing studies that Kelly pulled out of her studio flat file. The resulting collaboration was a series of conversations between imagery and lines of poetry exploring the sometimes odd and intimate pairings of sensory impressions that form our most potent memories.

This show at the Manhattan Arts Center revisits the interplay between the original word and image pairings by adding new components of audio and installation.

MAC Galleries are free and open to the public.

Gallery hours: Tues-Fri, Noon-5:30pm
