The play is an adaptation of her 1924 short story, "Philomel Cottage," and was later adapted again for the stage as Love from a Stranger. The story is a tense exploration of whether a stranger can truly be trusted, with themes of deception and fear in a secluded setting.

SOLD OUT PERFORMANCE POLICY
For sold-out performances, ticket holders are expected to arrive and be seated promptly before the scheduled curtain time.
If a ticket holder has not arrived within five (5) minutes after the scheduled start time, Manhattan Arts Center reserves the right to release their ticket to a patron on the waitlist. Released tickets may be reassigned at the discretion of Manhattan Arts Center based on the waitlist and availability.
Late-arriving ticket holders are not guaranteed admission or seating once their ticket has been released. If admission can still be accommodated, late arrivals may be seated at an appropriate time and location at the discretion of the front-of-house staff.
This policy applies specifically to sold-out performances and is intended to allow Manhattan Arts Center to accommodate patrons on the waitlist when seats would otherwise remain unused.
